FRUIT BODY: Up to 0.4cm wide (per fruit body). Found in massed groups the individual fruitbody is black-brown, round to ellipsoid (sometimes other shapes when co-joined) and covered with small black dots (ostioles) through which the spores will escape. GILLS/PORES: N/A. FLESH: White and hard with no distinct taste or odour. SPORES: Hyaline to pale brown, smooth, allantoid. HABITAT: On twigs and branches of Beech trees. Very rarely on other deciduous trees. SEASON: Very common. Throughout the year. EDIBILITY: Inedible. |
